Consuming Dog Meat in Canada
Can you remember being a kid and begging to have a dog? This animal would be your best friend, lend a floppy ear, unconditionally as you tell him/her every secret. Sleep with you when you were scared, protect your family. A dog has many purposes in life, workers for Farmers, Police, Blind, Mentally ill and the elderly. They have become kids for couples who chose not to have children. There is car seats, clothes and even Doggy Day Cares. Their innate ability to know what their owner want's and needs surpasses even a human. So begs the question , why would you eat one? When I first heard of this, I thought, Okay, Africa, India. Places where food is scarce and animals are not really considered pets.My surprise when I found out that it's done here and is legal to kill a dog for consumption, as long as it's done humanly and with a inspector watching. Humanly? What constitutes humanly? And furthermore what Restaurant in Canada would serve this? I was afraid to look but for the purpose of this article I did. Surprise, there was no way of finding what constitutes as humane, My guess is that as long as the dog is not skinned alive. Next question is where are these dogs coming from? Our Canadian Border has very strict rules in place when transporting animals from one country to here, but that does not mean they don't get across, it just means they strictly enforce the holding period. Has your dog gone missing?
